Adopt a Platoon

Adopt a Platoon is a group of volunteer moms that coordinate sending care packages to soldiers. We don't send things, but all of our kids got pen pals and have been LOVING writing back and forth to their soldiers. Some can't respond but the ones that do are SO grateful to get their letters and write back. It has become the highlight of our homeschool experience!!!

It takes a couple of months to get it up and going but these mothers are very committed and will definitely follow up with you once you contact them. We e-mailed them on their website.

SMART MARTHA

Could you use a Smart Martha Seminar? Smart Martha Seminars are designed for busy mothers seeking to live out their vocation as God has called them in today's busy society. Smart Martha Seminars are the result of many years of studying the great home organizers of our time like the Fly Lady, the Side-Tracked Home Executives, the Messies, the Confessed Home Organizer, and many others. It is also the result of living the homemaker vocation seriously for over 20 years with 9 children in tow. The designer and presenter, Tami Kiser, is an author and speaker who resides in South Carolina with her husband, children and many pets.

If you would like to register for the Smart Martha Seminar in Tacoma, WA on September 27 from 9:00 to 2:30, please download the registration form and send it along with payment to the address found on the registration form. Space is limited. Please register early if you plan to attend.

BOOK NOOK

A Gift of Gracias

A Gift of Gracias: The Legend of AltaGracia, by Julia Alvarez, illustrated by Beatriz Vidal, Knopf Books for Young Readers.
Julia Alvarez tells a beautiful story of a young Spanish girl who helps to save her family's farm with the help of Our Lady of Altagracia. A Gift of Gracias is available in many libraries, however, my family recommends purchasing this picture book. The feast of Our Lady of Altagracia is January 21.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Community service always looks great on college and/or job applications!  Our Lady of Guadalupe Maternity Center (located in Lakewood ) is greatly in need of volunteer workers to assist needy children and their families. They are open for their clients M, W, F from 10:00 to 1:30 p.m.     On Tuesdays and Thursdays, they are closed to the public and work on preparing the clothing, etc.  They are always in need of donations of maternity clothing, baby items and especially clothing for children ages 3, 4, 5 and 6.  If you knit or crochet, they would welcome your creations of baby booties, hats, sweaters and blankets!  Some of the parishes in the area sometimes sponsor “baby showers” and collect donations from their parishioners.  This would be another great project for a teen to organize and list on a college application! SUBMISSIONS

Please e-mail Christine any news or activities you would like included in the newsletter. In addition, please send your children’s poetry, short essays (1 page max.), and drawings for inclusion in the newsletter.

Education is not the piling on of learning, information, data, facts, skills, or abilities - that's training or instruction - but is rather making visible what is hidden as a seed.
